Issue 38 of The Witches’ Almanac for Spring 2019 – 2020 is on Animals: Friends and Familiars. Usually a black cat is the common image that comes to mind when you mention a familiar. However familiars come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. My current familiar is a blue and grey Quaker Parrot. She may be small but she is big in attitude! The bond and connection we share goes beyond an animal companion to human relationship. A familiar is much more than just a pet. Animals provide us with a connection to the land and the elements. They are amazing teachers for those willing to listen.

In Issue 38, you will find the usually information such as holidays, horoscopes, moon cycles and more. I love the articles that are sprinkled throughout. They vary in length and always full of fascinating and magickal material. I work a lot with animal and spirit animals within my rituals and found the contents captivating this issue. From the magickal to the mundane I already have earmarked several pages.

One project I can’t wait to try is a simple recipe for cookies for the birds. I have several bird feeders in my yard and always feel a special connection when feeding them. I admit usually the items are store bought but I am excited to make some treats for the birds while infusing with magick and love. We attract a variety of feathered friends and some of my favorite visitors are the small little house finches and the red winged blackbirds. Another I love when they grant me a visit, is the crows. Crow is one of my spirit animals and such a fascinating teacher. Much to my delight there was an article devoted to corvids!

Again, we have another great perennial annual to look forward to for this coming year.
