Being in the workplace, often in key positions of support and management, I have discovered a lot of good counsel. Things like hire people different from yourself; make a point to bring up the uncomfortable issues; ignoring problems does not make them go away – common sense from one perspective, but rarely obvious when you are in the midst of a difficult situation. Thanks to Darby Checketts, this wisdom and insight has been compiled into one book, Positive Conflict. Best of all, readers will find this book valuable in both their personal and professional lives. It is full of delightful stories and useful tips and techniques for dealing with conflict and diversity in positive and productive ways. (Another strongly recommended book for dealing with conflict is Gerry Spencer’s How to Argue and Win Every Time.)

In our careers and personal lives we all learn that "it's all about communication.” No matter who you are communicating with, spouse, child, co-worker, boss, or client, how you handle the communication has a major effect on the outcome. Of course, when we are under fire, stressed, upset or challenged our worst communication skills come out. Positive Conflict shows us how to harness the power of those difficult situations and use it constructively.

I enjoyed this book immensely, and am using it almost daily. Highly recommended.
