A Sacred Sex Devotional frames 365 quotes about making love for the erotic reader. The sources of these quotes range from Hindu epic poems to William Shakespeare to lyrics from American blues bands. Sensual, sexy and thought provoking quotes fit into a gift size book that fits well onto the average nightstand – or under a lover’s pillow.

No one single philosophy about ardor overpowers this book. Divided by seasons, the cross-cultural quotes bear the appropriate amount of heat for the selected time of year. In winter, the daily thoughts stay warm with affection: “The vibrations of sex were not intended to be an exceptional experience but a constant renewal force” (John S. Bayne). Heat rises appropriately in summer:  “Backward she push’d him, as she would the thrust,/And governed him in strength, though not in lust…”(Shakespeare).

Says the un-credited author of the introduction, “Through its powerful alchemy, sexuality connects the crude substance of material reality with the sublime substance of the spiritual. That this connection is already there, latently, within our living physical body, is the crucial secret that sexual love in its special intimate way actualizes for human beings.” A reader knows upon picking this book up that the editors think of sex as special, and this book could work as one tool to reach the divine through inspiring a partner.

The only real weakness of the book is its overwhelming heterosexual orientation. A brief search did not reveal any plans by the publisher to address this market, but there may always be a delay between a market niche and a market fill. A Sacred Sex Devotional still reads beautifully in one sitting alone, or over several nights in bed with a beloved reading each arousing word.
