For those like me who follow a blended path; Pagan Portals, The Hedge Druid’s Craft is a refreshing book that explores the traditions of Wicca, Witchcraft and Druidry into one. I have always been drawn to both worlds and perhaps so have you. The author Joanna Van Der Hoeven provides a great introduction to a blended path. The book helps break the boundaries of labels and allows you to focus on your craft. The book is an easy read so no matter if you are a beginner or a seasoned user, there’s something for everyone.

The author provides information on the basics of Witchcraft, Driudry, and Wicca. She doesn’t go in depth, so if you are wanting to learn more on the subjects, you might search out a dedicated book on the interested matter. Next the author dives into The Hedge and what it means to walk between the world. I loved reading the sections that covered the ancestors, gods, and especially the Fair Folk.

In part two, the reader learns about the World Tree and the Lowerworld, Middleworld, and Upperworld. Not only will the reader learn more, but we able to take a journey and connect with each level.

In part three, the author goes thru the plant lore, animal lore and celestial and weather lore. I have always had a natural connection to herbs and plants but the book has some great info on working with specific plants for your intentions. The animal lore is one of my personal favorites. We personally have two dogs, a bird and fish that live in our residence and their energy is amazing. Companion animals are a great way to connect with our nature selves. If you don’t have animal companions though, you can still connect with the wildlife near you. The author gives some great examples of wild creatures in your area and how you can work with their energy and learn from the signs and messages they impart daily. You need to just learn how to listen. He last part in the section discusses the weather and moon phases and uses for these in your practice.

The last section part four covers a witches favorite, rituals and rites. The author provides great daily prayers and rituals for every day use. You can also find some information on the sabbats and ideas for celebrating.

This book is a great introduction into the Hedge Druid’s craft for those who feel called. There are additional resources for further study listed in the back of the book. If you are looking to get some basics on this blended path, this book is a great start for your path.
