Journey To The Dark Goddess, by Jane Meredith is not a book for everybody.  That said, if the subject matter of the book; working with dark goddesses, taking a spiritual journey to work with those sides of ourselves that we typically work to hide and deny, this book is most definitely for you.

Working primarily with Inanna's descent into the underworld, Meredith takes her readers on a deeply personal inner journey through her own experiences, the myth of Inanna's descent and various exercises and projects at the end of each chapter.  Journey to the Dark Goddess has four chapters; preparing for descent, descending, while in the underworld and coming back up from the underworld.  Each section is then separated into discussions on the myth, Meredith's own journey, and so forth.

I must say though, that this book is a difficult read.  The material is very heavy, causing you to think and reflect while reading it.  I found that after each section I would take a few days break before begin reading again.  I do not find this as a bad thing though; a book with this sort of material is not fit for a quick read.  One thing though is that I found this book is very wordy, as if she used extra words to help describe certain ideas and concepts.  This did not really detract from my enjoyment of this book.  I also believe that this book can be used in both a personal alone setting, or a group setting.

For anyone who wants to do serious inner work with their dark, or shadow self I highly, highly recommend this book.
